Sexual and reproductive health is at the heart of the most important decisions that women and girls will make, and in most of the countries where Oxfam works, access to safe abortion services is out of reach. This leaves women – and especially women living in poverty and in rural areas – with no other choice but to resort to unsafe, life-threatening measures. Important inroads are being made through our projects like Her Future Her Choice (HFHC) in Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Canada – where partners are supporting young women to access the vital health information and services they deserve, while training public health workers, changing negative attitudes on sexual and reproductive health and advocating for women’s bodily autonomy and rights.

This makes Oxfam’s work all the more urgent and vital – to save lives and defend women’s rights.
